Barcelona is a beautiful city with a lot of charming to be explored. I have discovered Barcelona throughout its amazing mix of architecture styles, monuments, parks, gardens and the great variety of fresh seafood. Yes, the food is so delicious! For instance, the Paella dish is a perfect example of fresh seafood combination with yellow rice. If you don’t like seafood or fish, you can sample other dishes from the restaurant menu. Learning a new culture throughout the food is a pleasant and rewarding experience. The flavors are so unique!
I have to say that the people in Barcelona are very friendly! If you go beyond the tourist attraction areas -- where the English language isn’t spoken—and you need help with directions, the local people try to help you using non-verbal communications or using Spanglish. In their own way, they try to make you feel at home. If you want to discover the city, it is best to walk or to take the public transportation. The subways are very fast and cheap to reach any point in the city. I remembered walking myself miles and miles just to discover the surroundings-- remember that a print map is a very helpful tool to keep with you all the time, don’t you agree? Sometimes, I would sit in a café just to observe the lifestyle of the people: fashion styles, type of foods and topics of conversation. I was fascinated to hear the variety of language accents—the next time you travel, just pay attention to that detail. As a foreigner or acquainted visitor, you can learn a lot about from the culture and the customs just from paying attention to small details. Learning the basic of the culture mechanisms can help you blend and feel more comfortable when navigating the culture. As always, my camera --as an inseparable friend, followed me wherever I went.
Some of the places that you can’t miss when going to Barcelona is La Rambla. This is an exotic place during the night. At this time, the street show takes place with a variety of performers and human statues that delights the multicultural audience. The local people and the tourist walk La Rambla in all directions trying to take a comfort place to enjoy the show. All the street performers create a show for a few euros that they collect at the end of each presentation. Another place that you can’t miss is the market called La Boqueria; in this place tourist enjoy the freshness and the variety of food at a very low price. Usually, a breakfast or a lunch is less expensive at La Boqueria than a local restaurant. If you are on a budget, this is the place to enjoy some meals.
If you have some time you have to visit Park Güell, La Sagrada Familia, Joan Miró Foundation, Picasso Museum and Montjuïc Castle. In addition, to enjoy walking the surroundings of the city and tasting different foods and flavors. Also, Barcelona is a beautiful place to take photographs. It is very enchanting! I never stopped taking pictures whenever I went. Believe it or not, I always found an interesting point to shot. For me, each travel trip is an incredible experience that enriches me about the cultures of the world and helps me to understand how similar or different we are from each other. Traveling is so rewarding!
